The Differential Strike Patterns of Korea and France
[ send me this paper ]
Sonn (1997) calls Korea a late bloomer in the area of labour strikes, so it is particularly interesting that Korea labour is beginning to join the capitalist based globalisation movement to adopt flexible modern strike models, when France, the originator of the revolution, the striking of labour against the central government for better working conditions and better pay has also only recently moved in this direction. Most countries, belatedly France and Korea, have modernized their outdated labour laws. Yet, Korea is just beginning to experience what France has practiced since the 1700s, the recognition of and cooperation inherent among a working class. Until the last decade, both North and South Korea had been corporatist. Therefore, their labour patterns are undergoing the biggest, and quickest changes in the modern world. 7 references. jvKorFra.rtf

The Educational Needs of Poverty Stricken Students
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. One of
the most serious and explosive issues in the United States today is how to
meet the educational needs of poverty stricken students in our elementary
schools. If the current trends in educational achievement continue, millions
of students will not obtain the education necessary for full participation in
the economic and civic life of the country. Furthermore, the inequality that
results from differences in educational achievement of children is likely to
make the social stability of the United States increasingly doubtful.

The Effects of Teenage Pregnancy, AIDS, and Care for the Elderly on the Cost of
Medicaid and Medicare
[ send me this paper ]
A 16 page paper discussing teen pregnancy; AIDS research and
treatment; and care for the elderly, and how increased attention to these areas has affected
total costs of the government's primary health care initiatives. Medicare is still out of
control but under intense scrutiny; AIDS research has progressed so well that mortality
from the disease has been reduced 70%. Teen pregnancy also has declined, but access to
Medicaid still is problematic. Lack of first trimester prenatal care keeps infant mortality
rates high, and the physical and learning problems that these children can have as a result of
lack of mother's prenatal care provides ongoing expense that would not be as great were
access to Medicaid more open. The paper concludes that it is teen pregnancy that is the
weakest of the three areas in terms of making positive contribution to public health
management. Bibliography lists 14 sources.
