During the period of enlightenment scientific thought was beginning to be examined toward the field of the human mind in what was later termed the field of psychology. David Hume in the 1700s and his studies into human nature as a combination of sentimentalism and intellectualism were later revisited and refined by James and Wendt in the 1800s and discussed in relation to human will and conscious thought over actions by Dewey in the 1900s.
