Understanding the principal factors that underlie these realities is best appreciated through Marx's conflict theory, a concept that dictates one's place upon the socioeconomic latter by the political and economic structure of the specific society in which they live. Individuals mandated to outpatient treatment for drugs and alcohol feel powerless in what choices they believe they have to better their lives; as such, they become all the more vulnerable to being influenced in the wrong direction until interventionist approaches incorporate the decision-making properties of conflict theory as a practical application of empowerment.
