Gaps Between Theory and Application of Satellite Communications
[ send me this paper ]
This 11 page report discusses the gaps between the theories related to satellite communications and their applications as compared with the actual practice being utilized or expanded upon. An ever-increasing number of applications of international communications satellite technology have developed in the past forty years but many of those applications are still variations on the communications theme. This paper both discusses satellites and their capabilities but also examines the number of potential satellite applications that have received little attention or development. Bibliography lists 11 sources.

Gender Bias and IT Design
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page paper considers a case supplied by the student in the article “Configuring the User as Everybody: Gender and Design Cultures in Information and Communication Technologies” where there is the demonstration of gender in the way an IT system is designed with an I-methodology. The paper looks at the way this was inherent in the design culture and the use of implicit rather than explicit data sources. The bibliography cites 6 sources.

Gender Differences and Student Performance in IT Lessons
[ send me this paper ]
There is a great deal of research that indicates there is a gender difference in the classroom when studying IT. Most research indicates that female students are disadvantaged and are not reaching their full potential. However, there is also some research that indicates there is equality. This 30 page paper undertakes a literature review to identify the relevant studies and how gender differences may be manifesting and then conducts primamry research based on a questionnaire supplied by the student to test the empirical evidence. The paper then correlates the primamry research and the literature review in a discussion and recommendations. The bibliography cites 15 sources.

Gender Differences with Computer Anxiety
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page paper considers the way that gender may influence the occurrence of computer anxiety. The writer reviews three primary studies where aspects of age, culture and experience were correlated with computer activity in order to identify influencing factors. The bibliography cites 3 sources.

Genealogical Research: Data Integrity and the Internet
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page discussion of the problems digitized information in general and the Internet in particular present for the genealogists. Not only can this information be replete with error, it can be sent at the speed of light around the world. The contention is made that once an error is placed on the Internet it can never be truly corrected. Genealogists should thus take personal responsibility for insuring data integrity for information they retrieve from the Internet as well as data they upload to it. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Genetic Engineering of Food Crops: Demographic, Geographic, Economic, and Environmental Impacts
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page assessment of the potential negative impacts of genetic engineering as it is applied towards food crops. The author contends our production of genetically engineered crops will ultimately impact not just our population but the world population as a whole. Furthermore, this production has a high likelihood of ultimately causing pollution, endangering animals, and resulting in the extinction of certain plants and crops. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Genetically Engineered Foods: Possibilities for the Future
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page consideration of the promise of genetic engineering. This paper describes the potential benefits of the technology in improving the production, nutrition, and marketability of four common food crops, corn, wheat, tomatoes, and avocados. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Genetically Engineered Foods: An Interdisciplinary Perspective
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing this topic from social, geographic and anthropological perspectives. Many are fearful of using genetically modified foods, but there is no real evidence assessing long term effects either good or bad. However, loss of the natural form is the functional equivalent of extinction, and we can never know when new insights or new technological advances will reveal benefits of natural life forms crucial to human survival. If the natural form disappears before those capabilities come to be, then we can miss out on benefits that can be integral to our ultimate survival. This is the point at which interdisciplinary considerations converge. Each has a different perspective, but each ultimately is concerned with loss of the natural form. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Genetically Engineered Foods: Process, Controversy and Environmental Concerns
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 9 page paper discussing genetic engineering in food. Genetic engineering (GE) or biotechnology in food involves the process of inserting genetic material into plant or animal breeds in the hopes to develop certain positive characteristics within that breed; characteristics which may have previously taken generations to propagate in the breed. In addition to accelerating the breeding of certain characteristics in plants and animals, GE also involves the introduction of new genetic material within breeds in the hopes for developing new characteristics in breeds. Genetic engineering in food mainly involves the processes of disease and pest resistance in addition to increasing yield. While GE in food may appear to be a positive step toward increasing food yield and decreasing loss of breeds to disease which perhaps could be extended to decreasing world hunger and increasing farmers’ productivity, the manufacturing of genetically engineered food has come under a great deal of controversy. One of the major areas of concern is the “release” of new crops into the environment which have not been tested and little is known of the long term effects of any of the GE crops. Another area of concern is that larger corporations retain the patents on the GE processes which does not allow for the introduction of these processes on a global basis. GE foods have become very expensive and their manufacturing is restricted to a relatively few large corporations and countries in which profit seems to have become the major incentive for the production of GE foods. Lastly, many of the same companies which produce GE pesticide resistant crops are the same companies which also produce pesticides bringing into question the motivation and type of development of GE foods. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Geotechnical Engineering
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page overview of the many applications of geotechnical engineering. This paper emphasizes that geotechnical engineers are not just important in planning developmental activities, they also provide a useful service in protecting and reclaiming sensitive ecological areas. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
