Marriage as a Social Problem
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the ways in which marriage is a social problem in the modern world. To even consider marriage in the context of being a social problem goes against the majority of traditional frames of reference. However, if one is willing to suspend such a mindset, even for a brief period, it becomes possible to consider the ways in which the “institution” of marriage can be seen as something which actually has a number of negative characteristics that work against it. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Marx, Economics, and Feminism
[ send me this paper ]
This 9 page report discusses Karl Marx’s fundamental assertion, in the most simple of terms, was that all events are determined by economic forces and how that can be applied to the precepts and discourses of feminism. The connection between feminism, Marxism and capitalism becomes very clear when one considers how both Marxism and feminism are determined to succeed in “revealing the secret of the world” and showing the oppressive nature that “the system” creates for both women and men. Mary “Mother” Harris Jones
[ send me this paper ]
This 11 page report discusses the remarkable life of Mary Harris Jones or “Mother” Jones (1837- 1930) Because of her radical politics and her determination, she was one of the most famous women in America in the early years of the 20th century. She was famous in many respects because she was nobody and yet she was the embodiment of tens of thousands of the working poor. At the same time, she made certain that she was not simply looked over as another poor immigrant woman without money, family, or connections. Mary Harris Jones carried a message to the people of Africa regarding the nation’s women, its poor, and its workers. She told the truth that nobody wanted to hear . . .especially when it came from an immigrant woman. And yet, Mary Jones personifies the spirit which became an essential component of the women’s movement in America. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Men and Women Relationships: Inequality in Marriage
[ send me this paper ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing the relationships between men and women and the existence of inequality within marriage. The increasing role of women in the workplace often leads to disparity and inequality within marriages which is more obvious today as in the past because inequality still exists when both spouses are working. The traditional roles of women responsible for domestic tasks and child care while men were responsible for primarily working outside of the home were largely accepted well into the 20th century. However, within the last several decades, women are almost as equally represented in the work force as men but despite this, most studies on equality within marriages still report that women have a disproportionate share of the domestic tasks and child care responsibilities in addition to their professional career. What is surprising most of all from these findings is that the majority of couples surveyed still report that equality within a marriage is important even though their practices do not reflect this belief. Tutorial language appears throughout in square brackets to assist in research writing. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Moral Justification in the Issue of Female Genital “Mutilation”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that human rights organizations ranging from Amnesty International to the United Nations’ High Council on Refugees estimate that there are between eight and ten million women and girls in the Middle East and in Africa who are at risk of undergoing one form or another of genital “mutilation.” However, countless millions of those women and girls do not perceive the process as mutilation but a coming of age ritual, a rite of passage. As such, Westerners do not have the right to object to or campaign against the practice. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Most Witchcraft Accusations Were Made Against Women
[ send me this paper ]
20 pages in length. The discomfort that fear and unfamiliarity breeds has lead many societies to condemn certain populations for no rational reason. Looking back into history, perhaps no other example illustrates how unmitigated alarm and ignorance can create a living hell for those on the receiving end of such prejudiced treatment as with the subject of witchcraft. While both men and women alike were fingered as witches, women suffered considerably more accusations and, therefore, more indignities. Mental illness and gender emancipation, combined with the rampant fear of an unenlightened Puritan society, represented the primary reasons why witchcraft accusations were made mostly against women. Bibliography lists 17 sources.
